10km Race Today!

The results are in (quicker than any other race I might mention!) We both improved our times by 6 minutes!!! Way to go us!

Nadia was 529/614 place, time: 1:12:20 7:14 ave time per km

And I was 549/614 place, time: 1:15:13 7:32 ave time per km

I think this will be it for 10kms for a bit... we want to focus on our speed and do better on the 5kms!

Thanks to mom and Brian who both came out to cheer us on! Dad tried, but it was really hard to get anywhere near the race! Mom took some video of me running that she posted on her blog!

1 Week to go...

Nadia and I have one week to go until our next 10km run on Sunday morning! We trained this morning doing an 8km hilly trail. The trail is only 4km, so we did it 2 times, once in one direction and then the opposite. It took us 55minutes to complete, so that is aprox 6min 53 sec per km... not bad considering the hills we had to deal with! Our main goal is to beat our Sun Run time!! I think we can do it!

Hiking & a BBQ Picnic

Yesterday, Brian and I packed up my car, picked up Tag and headed off to a Lake in Mission for a 3 hour hike and then a BBQ picnic with John, Stefanie, Jeremy, Jack and Stefanie's brother Scott.

Tag was having a great time as always, running around, getting into whatever he could find... at one point he jumped into a huge mud puddle and looked like a chocolate dipped dog!

Snack time!

Here is one of the steep hills we had to hike... Tag took off to the top like it was nothing of course!

Unfortunatley my camera battery died so I dont have any pictures from our picnic! We BBQed Hot Dogs, Stefanie brought yummy peanut butter cupcakes and Tag was the hit of the party! I taught Jeremy how to throw a ball for Tag (and watch his fingers) and he did soooo well. I was really impressed that a 6 year old could handle Tag the way he did. Little Jack had fun with Tag too, he though it was funny when Tag tried to take his hot dog... and wasnt sure about the lick on the face, but Stefanie and I assured him puppy kisses were ok and then he smiled and laughed and all was good! Anyhow, we all had a great time and I was happy to see how good Tag was with the kids!

A picture from my run yesterday

Running has been such a great addition to my life... I get to see so many great new place and a lot more nature than you see in a given day. Here are some goslings drinking water from a puddle.

Hiking at Mt. Seymour

Can I just say this was a hard trail? It was either rocks or roots most of the way and it was steep!
Brian practicing up with his air gun for his upcoming airsoft game on Tuesday night!! Gotta admit, the air gun is alot of fun! I set up a tin foil target and did not half bad!
We are loving having Tag with us so much... it will be sad when he goes home tonight!

Tag's Sleep Over

Tag got to spend the weekend with Brian and I. I picked him up yesterday on my way home from Abby so he could check out his soon to be new home and meet everyone! He did very well... he only barked once at Brian (he kinda snuck up on Tag). Anyhow, we can't wait to have him with us again!

Kids Fair

I went to the kids fair at Stephanie's mom's school this weekend with Julie, Steph, Mom and the kids. It was fun to see everyone have such a good time... even more cool to see little Declan because he has just changed so much!! What a cute little guy!

The Numbers are in...

So everyone who knows me knows that I would not be able to wait to see the numbers... I went to Macs at like 6:20am to grab the Sun paper to get our times from the race yesterday!!

Over 51,000 people were in the race...

Nadia came in at 24,939 place at 1hr 18min and 41sec
I came in at 26,240 place at 1hr 21min and 20 sec

So can you believe that? We were only 3 minutes apart but 1300 places different!

Anyhow, I am thrilled we did so well... we did better than almost 50% of people there! Yay!

I did the Sun Run today!

Nadia and I completed our goal race today!! 10km Sun Run! We met at my work and took the sky train down town.
Have you ever seen so many people? I believe it was 47,000... just a sea of people!

This was the start line, it actually took 1hr and 15 minutes for our turn to start!

Along the Race

Can you imagine running through these crowds!? It was so hard... I really wished the walkers stayed to the right like they were supposed to!
One of the many water stations! How fun to actually be allowed to litter!! Haha.. honestly, it was wierd throwing the cups on the ground!
Running over the Burrard Street bridge (you can see Nadia in the bright pink centre to the left)
It was great that they had markers every where telling you how far you had run! Some how its easier when you know how much is left to go!

Crossing the Finish Line

This was running across the Granville Street bridge... Nadia had run ahead of me at this point as I was having hip problems!
Me running on the Granville Bridge... by this point, the group of runners definatley had spread out more than it was earlier!
Crossing the finish line... I put the camera down for this as I really wanted to concentrate on running! Besides, there are professionals taking pictures that you can buy later... maybe mine will be good??? :)
Nadia and I both did awesome... our estimated times are 1hr 15 min for Nadia and 1 hr 20 minutes for me. We will find out tomorrow in the newspaper how we actually did because of the time chips we wore on our shoes!
It was a great day and alot of fun... I did so many things I would never do... I took public transit, hung out in a crowd bigger than I could imagine, drank water I know people put there fingers in and used an outhouse! Haha... But seriously, it was an awesome feeling to accomplish this goal... looking forward to the next run at the end of May... another 10km!!!

Time to go green...

A special thanks to mom for giving me a bunch of plants on Saturday. I brought a bag of soil and a couple pots over to Mom's so I could she could help me start some plants at our home in Langley since we are staying for another year! (We are making it more homey now) The landscaping in the yard is not done yet, but our deck definatly is. The picture above is looking out from our bedroom! I will post better pictures on a nicer day when we really have things set up as Brian's Dad gave us patio furniture also!

Birthday Knives

So I found out Aaron got his knife yesterday so I was able to post this!! Happy 28th Birthday Aaron by the way! Dad had been telling me about Jeanie's brother being able to make custom knives and I knew for a month or so now that Dad had planned on getting a knife made for Brian for his birthday. I just so happened that Huey had finished making it and brought it to Kamloops when we were visiting. Long story short, Dad decided to give Brian his knife early as it suited the weekend so well (the gun show, dinner with Huey, Carol and Wayne...) Anyhow, Brian absolutely loved his knife... he could not stop smiling and is showing it off to all his friends! Brian's has a Buffalo horn handle and Aaron's has the wooden handle with the engraving on the centre piece. I bet Aaron loves his just as much. What an awesome gift.

Bye Bye Kamloops House

Brian and I had the honour of being the last guests at Dad and Jeanie's house in Kamloops! They have sold their house and will be moving on down to their new river front trailer park (temporary of course!) later this week. We stayed from Thursday night till Sunday afternoon and had a great time! Highlights included Take Sushi! The Gun & Antique Show, Dinner with Jeanie's brother Huey, sister-in-law Carol and Dad's friend Wayne... and of course, the new and amazing 'beer' waffle breakfast! Thanks again for an awesome time Dad and Jeanie!!!
